Kickstarter starts welcoming UK creators with projects launching Oct. 31

While Kickstarter has allowed anyone in the world to support a project, only U.S.-based projects have been allowed. Now, the crowd-funding platform is opening the doors to U.K. projects, following up on an announcement it made in July.

Creators can start preparing a project today and launch them starting on Oct. 31. The projects will be mingled in with U.S. projects on the Kickstarter site, but the U.K. projects will be listed in British pounds, not dollars.

Kickstarter will charge the same 5 percent fee on successfully funded projects. The processing fees will be 5 percent plus £0.05 ($0.08) for pledges of less than £10 ($16) and 3 percent plus £0.20 on pledges of £10 or more.

Kickstarter has also updated its shipping system making it easier for project creators to ask for additional money from international backers to pay for international shipping costs. Creators can also now limit rewards to domestic backers if they choose to avoid international shipping.
