Just a couple of weeks after its announcement, AT&T(s t) on Friday confirmed that the Moto X(s goog) will be available in stores beginning August 23. AT&T will offer customers exclusive access to Moto Maker online the same day.
The Moto X is Motorola’s latest flagship device, and eschews top-of-the-line specs for unique features like Touchless Control and the ability to custom-design your own device. AT&T will offer the 16GB Moto X for $199.99 and the 32GB model for $249.99 with a two-year agreement. And AT&T is allowing a few lucky customers who pre-registered for the device the chance to design and receive their phone starting August 19.
While the Moto X is coming to all four major U.S. carriers, right now AT&T has an exclusive on Moto Maker, Motorola’s site that allows you to create a custom-built Moto X exactly to your specifications. Options include more than 2,000 unique color combinations, inscriptions, and even the ability to choose your wallpaper and have your account preloaded before the phone gets to you. And if you buy your Moto X through the Moto Maker, AT&T will give you a free Motorola Skip accessory. The Skip is a small, stylish clip that automatically unlocks your phone with a single tap. You can wear it on your shirt sleeve, belt, pocket, or wherever else it’s convenient for you. It also comes with Skip dots, which are programmable stickers that can unlock your phone. Only Skips and Skip dots that have been paired with your phone can unlock it.
AT&T hasn’t said how long it will be offering the Skip for free, and Motorola hasn’t announced how much it will cost when it goes on sale.
