Instagram is finally coming to Windows Phone

Prepare to say goodbye to your third-party Instagram apps: The popular photo sharing platform is finally coming to Windows Phone(s msft). Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed the news on Tuesday at Nokia’s Lumia-focused press conference in Abu Dhabi.

“Our ultimate goal is to bring Instagram to everyone who wants to use it,” said Systrom, who will also be speaking about the future of Instagram at GigaOM’s upcoming RoadMap event.

While there’s still quite a large gap in app availability between Windows Phone compared with iOS(s aapl) and Android(s goog), Instagram has long been one of the biggest apps missing from Microsoft’s mobile platform. There are plenty of third-party apps available, but many don’t offer the same features as Instagram and some don’t work at all.

There’s no word yet on an exact release date, but Systrom said, “We’re looking forward to watching the Windows Phone community use Instagram to capture and share beautiful moments in the coming weeks.”
