Microsoft meeting in a nutshell: Gates cried and directors got re-elected

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates shed tears at the company’s annual shareholders meeting as he talked about the tenure of outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer and the company’s search for his successor. Ballmer’s planned exit, announced in August, would have to resonate with gates — the two executives are the only CEOs in Microsoft’s 38-year history.

In related news, Microsoft’s current slate of 9 directors, including Ballmer, were re-elected.  And at another event halfway around the world, Nokia shareholders approved the sale of the company’s handset business to Microsoft for $7.4 billion.

Oh, and Ford(s f) CEO Alan Mulally remains the front-runner to be Microsoft’s next CEO, AllThingDigital re-reported today.
