Sony Xperia Z2 specs and screenshots purportedly leaked

The Sony(s sne) Xperia Z1s is still fresh on T-Mobile(s tmus) store shelves, but details of the company’s next-generation handset, the Xperia Z2 (codenamed Sirius) continue to emerge. Xperia Blog claims to have a bunch of information on the forthcoming device, from specs and images to screenshots of the phone’s UI.

Xperia Z2 specs

Spec-wise, it looks like the Xperia Z2 will have a slight leg up on most of the competition, as its rumored to feature Qualcomm’s(s qcom) new 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 MSM8974AB processor with Adreno 330 graphics and 3GB of RAM. That should provide plenty of power to fill up the 5.2-inch display quite nicely. The phone is also believed top feature a 20.7-megapixel rear camera (the same resolution as the Z1s) as well as a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.

That new processor should allow the Z2 to capture 4K video, which is seemingly confirmed in one of the leaked screenshot below. In addition to this, Sony’s camera apps might include Timeshift video, which would allow you to record high frame rate video and apply slow motion effects, which is a similar feature to what Apple(s aapl) offers with the iPhone 5s.

Xperia Z2 camera software

The phone is expected to ship running Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and it looks like Sony is borrowing lots of little software tweaks and modifications to distinguish the phone from the competition. Smart backlight control, for instance, will keep the phone’s screen on as you’re looking at it. And smart call handling lets you answer or reject calls with motion gestures. You should also be able to double tap the phone’s screen to wake it, like the LG G2. For more, there are plenty of additional features and tons of screenshots you can check out on Xperia Blog.

Physically, it looks like the phone will retain the same general design as its predecessors, though it is rumored to feature dual-speakers on the top and bottom of the handset, which you can see in the picture below.

All of this looks pretty promising, though there’s no indication of when Sony might announce the phone. I’ve seen rumors of a MWC announcement next month, though given the recent Xperia Z1s announcement at CES, I think Sony will hold off in favor of a private event after the show.
