Samsung invite hints at new interface, features for Galaxy S5

Now that is has been all-but-confirmed that Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month, the company is starting to drop some hints for what to expect. And a new teaser for the MWC press conference live stream on the Samsung Tomorrow blog is chock full of potential clues.

As you can see, the text for every icon shown here is followed by the number 5. If that’s not a clear indication for what phone we should be expecting, then I don’t know what is. But look closer and it actually goes a little deeper than that. The icons themselves, for instance? They certainly don’t look like anything we’ve seen from TouchWiz in the past. This could hint at a new interface on the way, and the simpler, flatter design language fits in with rumors we’ve already heard. (Then again, these icons also look a lot like Samsung’s Tizen platform, so Samsung might be throwing us all for a loop.)
Some of the categories listed here are also pretty interesting, like Fitness, Outdoor and Privacy. While these have all been featured in some small way in the past, they’ve never really taken center stage. Other features like Speed and Style are to be expected. And quite frankly, I’m not sure what to make of Curiosity, Fun or Life.
Samsung isn’t offering any additional help, either. The text that accompanies this image on the Tomorrow blog is a quote from Nobel prize-winning physicist Niels Bohr: “Prediction is very difficult, especially if it’s about the future.”
