Need a better flash for your iPhone camera? iBlazr will brighten your day (and night)

If the iPhone’s LED flash isn’t quite cutting it for your pictures, perhaps iBlazr will. This $50 dongle plugs into the headphone jack of an iPhone, where it communicates with a companion app for adjustable brightness and synchronized firing with the iPhone’s own flash bulb. The four LEDs in iBlazr are powered by an internal battery, so the accessory won’t drain any extra juice from your iPhone.

The iBlazr comes from the same team that created the Lunacase for iPhone: A case that lights up for incoming notifications by using electromagnetic waves for power. And like the Lunacase, iBlazr was also a Kickstarter project. It was funded last September and now iBlazr is available directly in the Apple Store.

This quick overview video shows off some iBlazr’s functions, which range from flash bursts to a constant flashlight for video capture:

The four LEDs in iBlazr light up with a daylight color — 5600K temperature — and have a wide 70-degree beam. You can adjust the brightness in the app for the constant light. And the internal battery is good for about 500 flashes before a recharge, which is done with a USB cable and included 3.5 millimeter adapter.

Although the Apple Store doesn’t show iPhone 6 and 6 Plus compatibility, the iBlazr tells me that it does work with Apple’s newest phones. It also supports [company]Google[/company] Android 4.0 and [company]Microsoft[/company] Windows Phone devices.
