Apple might have quad-core iPhone and iPad devices coming in 2012, according to some code discovered deep in Apple’s iOS 5.1 pre-release software on Friday. This discovery adds fuel to the fire surrounding rumors the iPad 3 will boast a quad-core A6 processor.
One of the key components of Apple devices — the iPad 2- and iPhone 4S-powering A5 processor — is apparently now American-made. A new report from Reuters Friday says that the A5 processor is now being made by Samsung for Apple at a factory in Austin, Texas.
So there was no iPhone 5. But there will be a new iPhone 4S, which Apple announced Tuesday. It looks just like the iPhone 4, but while there were no huge changes, it’s important to remember that these incremental upgrades could add up to a lot.
