Any dip in North American iPhone sales is bound to have an impact on U.S. mobile carriers, in particularly AT&T which has leaned heavily on the iPhone for years.
AT&T revealed Thursday morning that it had already activated more than 1 million iPhone 4S devices as of Tuesday, which makes this iPhone launch the most successful ever for the carrier. AT&T is the only U.S. carrier to support the new iPhone’s HSPA+ mobile broadband speeds.
The iPad is leading the tablet charge in small and medium-sized businesses (SMB), resulting in a growth spurt that puts the Apple device out in front of nearly all other comers. I say nearly, because there’s still one device that sees even more activations: the iPhone.
In the past, WWDC topics have included data on the ever-increasing number of iOS devices sold and growth of the platform, and the same can be expected this year; just don’t expect any more comparisons between iOS and Android on activations.
