This is good news for cloud computing in general, given that even the larger consulting players consider this market critical for their success. Over time, cloud computing will become systemic to IT, and thus won’t be considered a separate and emerging space.
The Belgian IT automation startup is now trying to address the scaling needs of its users. But before it leaves beta, it also wants to figure out the billing piece of the cloud broker business.
Seville, Spain-based startup Besol is trying to take on companies like RightScale with a new cloud-management platform called Tapp. The company is currently honing its skills providing management interfaces for European telcos’ cloud offerings, and will start a push into North America in 2013.
Racemi, which specializes in moving business workloads onto and between clouds, snagged $7 million in second-round funding led by Paladin Capital Group and Harbert Venture Partners. The money will fund the expansion of Racemi’s sales, service and engineering efforts.
The next big leap in both technology and business models around sharing elastic compute resources will be bidding for those resources at auction or acquiring them through a broker, according to Forrester. But this broker business just adds more abstraction to an already abstract business.
