500Startups actually has 500 startups & a new fund

Dave McClure’s 500Startups has officially invested in over 500 companies in more than 40 countries. And the pace and scope of its investment continues: it now has about 600 companies in its portfolio. And in order to keep finding and funding companies, McClure’s group has closed a $44 million fund, a big step up from its $29.4 million first fund that closed at the end of Dec 2011.) 500 Startups announces spring accelerator application opening

Dave McClure’s 500 Startups accelerator program will begin accepting applications for the spring class on Thursday, for the first time opening the entire application process to applicants via AngelList. The application process will stay open until March 1.

With the help of $2.5M, SpotHero aims to fill parking lots

A graduate of Excelerate Labs in Chicago, SpotHero wants to act as a parking spot broker for the big lots as well as offer consumers the cheapest parking rates through its mobile apps. The company’s $2.5 million round was led by Battery Ventures.
