Samsung will take the wraps off its latest Galaxy handset at an event in London on May 3. You’re all thinking this will be the Galaxy S III, and you’re probably right, but there may be more to this event than a mere smartphone unveiling.
I know many of you are heading home from Las Vegas today, so I wanted to direct your attention to this little wrap-up about five mobile trends that surfaced at CES from InformationWeek’s Eric Zeman. There wasn’t as much mobile news as I expected — Nokia made some waves, as expected, and Intel garnered some headlines — but Zeman outlines some important things to keep an eye on in 2012. And he notes that mobile payments “aren’t coming anytime soon,” despite all the recent headlines to the contrary. We may eventually use our handsets to pay for goods at the retail counter routinely, but there are far too many hurdles to overcome for that to gain any real traction this year.
