U.S. to top the world in mobile ad spending for the first time

For the first time, the U.S. will surpass Japan as the world’s biggest market for mobile advertising, according to research firm eMarketer. In 2012, advertisers are expected to spend more than $6.43 billion globally in 2012, with the U.S. contributing $2.3 billion.

There are very few analysts who make the tech industry stop and listen. Mary Meeker is one of those analysts, and on Wednesday she delivered one of her trademark presentations touching on the global economy, the mobile opportunity, and Facebook’s unprecedented IPO.

In 10 Years, Hours Spent on Internet Almost Doubled

Adult Internet users were spending close to 13 hours a week online in 2009 vs. about seven hours in 1999, according to a report. The number of adult Internet users has gone up to 184 million this year from 113 million in 1999.

Given the nature of my profession, it has taken a lot of self-control to limit my Internet usage and, thus, deal with Internet Anxiety Disorder while on the go.

And despite my best intentions, I end up checking the news, writing one or more blog posts, and generally spending time answering emails, working, and therefore missing out on hours of an opportunity to gaze at the beauty of Wyoming’s mountains, laze on Miami’s beaches or simply soak in the billion shades of India.
