Protecting data from U.S. court-ordered warrants

In his Weekly Update, David Linthicum, the Gigaom Research curator for cloud, ponders the rise of the “safe cloud”, which he envisions as offshore public clouds. These clouds would not be run by U.S. companies and therefore would theoretically reside beyond the reach of U.S. court-issued warrants. Theoretically, such ISPs would not be obligated to turn over customer data in response to such warrants, and so customer trade secrets and other sensitive data could be better guarded.
